Dynamic Visualisation in Three Physical Dimensions

Authors: Anthony Rowe and Andrew Morrison
Session: A Space-Time of Ubiquity and Embeddedness/Interactivity and Mobility in Mixed Realities

This talk focuses on the installation as a genre. The authors looked at digital media as material and explored the LED as both material and mediator.

They describe NOVA, a volumetric visualization that consists of a 10 x 10 x 10 grid of balls lit up by coloured LEDs.

One installation that uses the NOVA system is Stealth, a two-player game based on Connect 4.

Another installation, Discontinuum, toys with the idea of looking at objects from within. Using live web cam imagery, images are projected within a NOVA unit in a rotating form.
